We have been using OPNET for our research of "Mobile Police Box". The reason why we took up this theme is because: there has been considerable interest in a competition for various wireless communications for ubiquitous networks and proposals to many kinds of application in ubiquitous networks. And we have witnessed remarkable progress in security technology and systems for homes and houses in Japan. Some of them have already been implemented and deployed as new security services. Whatever services or solutions to be offered, we would need a common platform for them in order for their implementation and future enhancement.

Facing its needs, we are proposing Mobile Police Box (MPB) as a common platform for community security system and researching on possible telecommunication mechanism among nodes and methods to create the community.

In our research, we define the Mobile Police Box system with the security functions being composed of the following components:

Mobile Police Box (MPB): executing security functions
Local Residence (LR): informing events
Virtual Police Station (VPS): managing two or more VCSs
Monitoring Station (MS): monitoring with image information and informing events

What we target is a security system intended for a wide open space where we have no control for entry and exist into and from the space. And we regard a community as a virtual closed space for the convenience to make home security technologies easy to apply. This space is called Virtual Closed Space (VCS).

And for the security, we assume the following three functionalities:

Prevention: patrol and inspection by MPB within the community
Report: communication among VPSs, LRs, MS, and adjacent MPBs
Pursuit: dashing off to the site of crime and tracking/pursuing the criminals or incidents

We consider each functionalities being executed using a mobile terminal in a wide open space, and Mobile IPv6 is selected as a protocol that manages a mobile terminal in the Network Layer, UDP in the Transport Layer, and a new protocol is proposed in the Application Layer.

And by its nature, security is constant and 24 X 7 available service, it is essential to consider system performance. Also we have to assume various traffic-patterns of reports. Therefore, it is necessary to examine the reception processing when the reports are being generated.

In our labs, we define the system and simulation-modeling using OPNET modeler together with Wireless and IPv6 modules. Then, we analyze network traffic in the simulation model and evaluate basic properties.
